Mt. Madonna School senior Paola Jacobs celebrated her birthday by extending the girls’ volleyball team’s season.

The top-seeded Hawks defeated No. 4 Colfax High in four sets, 25-21, 25-27, 25-14, 25-13, on Saturday in the CIF NorCal Division V semifinal.

Jacobs had 23 kills and 21 digs to help Mt. Madonna get back into a regional final after missing out last year—it lost in the second round of the D-IV bracket.

Sophomore outside Liana Kitchel had eight kills and 16 digs for the Hawks (18-9).

Junior middle Kahlan Tervalon had five blocks, including two straight to clinch match point. She also had four kills.

Freshman middle Eve Willis had seven kills and four blocks, while freshman opposite Mariah Cohen had five kills and three blocks.

Senior defensive specialist Tabby Hardin-Zollo had 10 digs and senior Anmei Dasbach-Prisk had 16 digs for the Hawks.

Mt. Madonna hosts No. 2 Nueva School (25-8) in the D-V final today at 6 p.m. It’ll be a rematch of the Central Coast Section D-V championship match.

The Hawks defeated the Mavericks to capture their second straight CCS D-V championship and fourth title overall—2007, 2009, 2018, 2019.

Mt. Madonna won its NorCal D-V opener against Oakland Tech in three sets, 25-19, 25-7, 25-11. The Hawks followed up with another sweep against Le Grand High, 25-22, 25-16, 25-17, in Thursday’s second-round match.

Hawks’ coach Erin Mitchell said Le Grand played defense with one blocker and five defenders.

“At first we had some trouble when we realized our shots wouldn’t work on them but we started hitting lights out and serving aggressively and we ran away with the match,” she said.

Jacobs has racked up 46 kills and 50 digs in the NorCal D-V playoffs. Junior setter Savannah Cambell leads the Hawks with 54 assists.

Aptos advances to NorCal D-IV final: The No. 7 Mariners are within reach of their first NorCal title in more than two decades.
