AROMAS — Due to recent storms and rising river levels, county officials have closed Murphy Road in Aromas.

Murphy Road between San Juan Road and Highway 129 has been closed since Friday at 1 p.m., due to the river overtopping the roadway, according to the Monterey County Resource Management Agency.

According to the National Weather Service, the Pajaro River’s water level reached 18 feet as of 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, just 14 feet short of its flooding level. The water level is expected to drop off significantly throughout the week.

Public Works crews will clean the roadway and reopen it after river levels have subsided.

Motorists are advised to take San Juan Road and turn right on Porter Drive/Main Street as an alternate route to reach Highway 129.
